But with the innovation of technology, original incredible technology has become a reality. Such glass has now been used everywhere in our daily buildings. It makes you often mistakenly think that there is no obstruction in front, ultra-white glass, aka low iron glass. Let me explain why it is expensive among other regular glass.

What is the low iron glass?

Ultra-white glass, also known as low-iron glass and high-transparent glass, is ultra-transparent low-iron glass. It can reach a high light transmittance of more than 91.5%, has crystal clear, known as the “Crystal Prince” of the glass family. It is a high-grade glass variety of high-quality, multi-functional features.

Ultra-white glass has superior physical, mechanical, and optical properties. At the same time, it has all the processing properties of high-quality float glass to allow for various deep processing.

Such features make ultra-white glass having a broad application space and bright market prospects. At present, only a few companies in the world master the production technology of ultra-white glass. Therefore, using ultra-white glass is a symbol of the luxury identity of the building.

How to identify ultra-white glass

Testing method

  1. Use a photographed mobile phone flash function to check if it has a substantial degree of lighting from the side of the glass.
  2. The genuine super white cylinder can see the seam of the lower glass by light from the cutting surface of the glass. You can see the bottom of the cylinder. And the unqualified super-white cylinder, the surface is green, and the light transmittance is poor.

What’s the advantage of ultra-white glass

  1. The self-explosion rate of glass is low in the ultra-white glass raw material; the internal impurity is minor due to the fine control of raw material melting, which dramatically leads to the low chance of self-explosion after being temperance.
  2. Color consistency Since the iron content in the raw material is only 1/10 or less of the ordinary glass, the green band of the super white glass is less absorbed in the glazing of the visible ultra-white glass, ensuring the consistency of the glass color.
  3. The visible light transmittance is high, the permeability is greater than 91.5%, with clear crystal quality. With ultra-white glass, the exhibition product is much clearer in people’s eyes, and it can highlight the authentic original appearance of the exhibit products.
  4. High market, strong profitability, production control is complex, and relatively strong profitability. The higher quality determines its higher price, which is 1 to 2 times the ordinary glass. The cost is not instead that high as regular glass. The technical barrier is relatively high, with a high value.

What is reflective Glass

Reflective glass, also known as reflective glass. Coated glass is to coat one or more layers of metal, alloy or metal compound film on the surface of the glass to change the optical properties of the glass to meet certain specific requirements.

Heat-reflective glass is generally coated with one or more films composed of metals such as chromium, titanium or stainless steel or their compounds on the surface of the glass so that the product is rich in color, has an appropriate transmittance for visible light, and has a higher resistance to infrared reflectance, it has a high absorption rate of ultraviolet rays, so it is also called solar control glass, which is mainly used in construction and glass curtain walls;

Low-E glass (Low-E) is a thin film system composed of multiple layers of silver, copper, tin and other metals or their compounds coated on the surface of the glass. The product has high transmittance to visible light and high reflectivity to infrared. It has good heat insulation performance and is mainly used in construction, automobiles, ships, etc. Due to the poor film strength, it is generally used as a hollow glass. The heat passing through the glass is bidirectional; that is, heat can be transferred from indoor to outdoor and vice versa, it is carried out simultaneously. It is only a problem of poor heat transfer. In winter, the indoor temperature is higher than the outdoor temperature, and insulation is required.

In summer, the indoor temperature is lower than the outdoor temperature, and glass must be insulated. Low-E glass can keep heat and heat insulation. The visible light transmittance of Low-E glass ranges from theoretically 0%-95% (it isn’t easy to achieve with 6mm white glass), and the visible light transmittance represents indoor lighting. The outdoor reflectance is about 10%-30%, and the outdoor reflectance is the visible light reflectance, which represents the intensity of reflection or the degree of dazzling.

Two current production methods of Low-E glass

Online high-temperature pyrolysis deposition methods, such as PPG’s Surgate200, Ford’s Sunglas H. R”P”. These products, are completed during the float glass cooling process. Liquid metal or metal powder is sprayed directly onto the surface of the hot glass. As the glass cools, the metal film layer becomes a part of the glass.
The main advantage of the offline vacuum sputtering method is that the “U” value of the “Low-E” hollow glass produced by sputtering is better than that of the pyrolysis product. Still, its disadvantage is that the silver oxide film layer is very fragile.
