Is the thicker the glass in the shower room safer?

The glass can be said to be the largest part of the shower room area, and it is also the component with a higher frequency of activity in the daily shower. It can be said that the glass is related to the quality of the shower room and the safety of our daily shower. Therefore, the purchase of shower room must pay attention to the glass.

In fact, the glass used to make the shower door has special requirements. Ordinary glass can not be used to make a shower room, must use tempered glass!

Tempered glass has a toughening process relative to ordinary glass. The production of tempered glass is to first put ordinary glass into the tempering furnace to warm, when the glass temperature rises to about 750 ° C, the glass is removed from the tempering furnace, and the strong wind is quenched, that is, the large fan of more than 200 kW will quickly blow the red glass cold. This quenchlike process enhances the strength, hardness, impact resistance, and compression resistance of the glass.

First, why must the shower room use tempered glass

1. High strength and resistance

The impact strength of tempered glass of the same thickness is 3 to 5 times that of ordinary glass, and the bending strength is 3 to 5 times that of ordinary glass. The national standard GB 15763.2-2016 requires that the "impact resistance" of tempered glass be broken by 6 pieces of tempered glass, and no more than one piece is qualified.

2. Good thermal stability

Tempered glass can withstand the temperature difference is 3 times that of ordinary glass, can withstand the temperature difference of 300 ° C, can adapt to the rapid change of temperature, hot and cold use environment.

3. Strong safety performance

Ordinary glass breakage will produce sharp edge, cut the human body, and tempered glass is damaged by external force, the debris will be similar to honeycomb obtuse small particles, not easy to cause harm to the human body.

The national standard GB 15763.2-2016 requires that the impact debris state of the shower room is 6-10mm thick glass, and the safe amount of debris per 50*50mm area is more than 45 grains. The more fragments there are, the smaller the fragments, and the less danger they pose to the human body.

Second. 3C certification

So, how to distinguish the use of ordinary glass or tempered glass shower room?
The most important mark: 3C certification.
The full name of 3C certification is "mandatory product certification system", which is a product conformity assessment system implemented by the Chinese government in order to protect consumers' personal safety and national security, strengthen product quality management, and implement in accordance with laws and regulations.

Third, glass thickness

Shower rooms produced by different manufacturers have different thicknesses of tempered glass. Common thicknesses are 4mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm.

1. Tempered glass is not the thicker the safer

Intuitively speaking, the thicker the glass, the more stable it feels. But shower room glass is not the thicker the better!
Too thick glass has the following problems:
It is difficult to achieve complete tempering
Glass with a thickness of more than 10mm is difficult to be completely tempered for some small brand shower room manufacturers, and there is glass breakage and shower safety risks.
Poor thermal conductivity
One of the main reasons for the self-explosion of the shower room is the uneven heat dissipation in various places, and the thicker the glass, the greater the chance of glass explosion.
Increase the pressure on hardware fittings
The thickness of the glass increases, the weight is proportional, and the pressure on the frame and hardware accessories also increases. If the strength and load-bearing performance of the frame and hardware accessories are not correspondingly improved, the service life will be greatly reduced.
Therefore, the most suitable thickness of the shower room glass is 6mm-8mm.

2. Different styles, shower room glass thickness requirements are different

The sliding door shower room uses 6mm and 8mm glass, and the flat door shower room uses 8mm and 10mm thick glass.

The sliding door shower room should consider the bearing problem of the guide rail, the weight of a square meter after 6mm glass is about 15kg, 8mm thick glass is about 20kg, 10mm thick glass is about 25kg, the weight of the glass will form pressure on the guide rail, and the thicker the glass, the greater the weight, the daily moving glass door is more expensive. Therefore, the sliding door shower room usually uses a slightly lower thickness of glass.

The flat door shower room has a variety of styles and pays more attention to the appearance design, because it does not have to consider the bearing capacity of the guide rail, the designer usually chooses slightly thicker glass, especially the high-end shower room, to highlight the overall design texture.

No matter how beautiful the appearance design of the shower room, non-tempered glass, no 3C certification, glass thickness is abnormal, it is not suitable to buy.
